The Washington Capitals have signed center Boone Jenner to a four-year contract worth $23 million, carrying an average annual value of $5.75 million.
The team is currently on a W4 streak with a 43-30 record, standing 9th in the Eastern Conference as of July 2, 2026.
Jenner brings a wealth of experience, having played 808 games across 13 seasons in the NHL, all with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
He is a true power forward, highly physical at both ends of the ice, with an excellent shot that has helped him score 20 or more goals four times in his career.
The 6-foot-2, 207-pound Dorchester, Ontario, native is expected to continue his transition into a depth role, as he did with the Blue Jackets last season.
His hard-nosed approach, combined with efficient offensive production, will make him a player Spencer Carbery can move throughout the lineup and play in various situations.
Jenner's career draw win percentage is 54%, and he has finished with a win rate above 50% in 11 straight seasons.
The 33-year-old can certainly still have an impact for seasons to come, with his 0.56 points per game in 2025-26 right in line with his 0.52 per game average throughout his career.
And despite being squeezed out of the Blue Jackets after they signed Charlie Coyle, a similar player, to a six-year extension, Jenner's play has not declined significantly.
So Capitals fans can look forward to seeing Jenner's physical presence and leadership on the ice.
He will likely be a key player in the team's push for a playoff spot, given their current standing and streak.
