The Washington Capitals and Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation closed the 2025-26 season with a record $1.8 million raised for local charities.
The Capitals and Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation wrapped a season of community impact that funneled over $1.8 million into D.C.-area causes. Fundraising drives, player-led events and youth hockey programs powered the effort. The total eclipsed last year’s haul and set a new franchise benchmark for off-ice giving.
Caps Care Community Programs and Initiatives led the charge, rolling out clinics, equipment drives and school visits. Theme nights at Capital One Arena added momentum, while Monumental’s foundation channeled dollars into District of Play projects. Youth hockey development received a major boost, with new rinks and learn-to-skate sessions reaching underserved neighborhoods.
The Capitals finished 9th in the Eastern Conference with a 43-30 record and a four-game winning streak. That late-season push kept playoff hopes alive and kept the team in the D.C. spotlight. Players chipped in with charity auctions tied to big wins, including a 5-2 home victory over Philadelphia on March 12.
The foundation plans to expand District of Play grants and add more youth clinics in underserved wards. Player programs will keep rolling, with forwards Dylan Strome and Conor Sheary leading offseason reading and skills camps. The goal: keep the $1.8 million mark as the new floor, not the ceiling.
